Pair PMQ’s creative shops and studios with a visit to Tai Kwun. Choose a few places that interest you, check individual opening hours and leave time between the two. Budget three to four hours as a starting point, with a shorter route if slopes, heat or rain make walking difficult.
PMQ: start with the makers
PMQ brings design studios, independent shops and creative programmes into a former police married quarters site. Its directory covers categories such as fashion, home and lifestyle, art and design services.
Browse the directory before arriving and select a small handful of spaces. A workshop may need a separate booking, while a shop or studio may have its own hours. Do not treat an open building as a promise that every tenant is available.
Leave the middle of the route open
The gap between destinations is part of the afternoon. Choose a break along your walking route rather than adding a restaurant across the city. Keep your next fixed booking, if any, visible so a spontaneous stop does not create a rush.
Central and Sheung Wan have gradients and stairs. Check your route for the needs of your group, especially with luggage, a stroller or reduced mobility. Allow for the actual conditions instead of relying on an optimistic walking estimate.
Tai Kwun: choose one cultural stop
Tai Kwun combines heritage and arts at 10 Hollywood Road. Check its current exhibition programme and visiting information before committing to a time. Access to the compound and access to a particular exhibition are different questions.
Make one exhibition or programme the focus. If nothing fits your interests or schedule, leave more time for the neighbourhood instead. This route is a framework for choosing, not a claim that every stop suits every traveller.
A useful booking order
- Check whether the exhibition or workshop needs a booking.
- Confirm that booking directly with the organiser.
